Anyone who has driven through the hills around Keppitipola and Badulla knows how good the pastures are. Dairy farming is part of daily life here, and Richi Dairies Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has built a business around it. At Nilusha Engineering, we enjoy working with producers like Richi, because their story shows what a Sri Lankan dairy can do with fresh local milk and the right equipment behind it.
Who they are
Richi Dairies Lanka is a dairy manufacturer based in the Uva Province, serving families in and around Badulla, Bandarawela and Keppitipola. The brand describes what it offers as high-quality dairy products and farm-fresh goodness, and customers in the region know it for everyday products they trust.
What they make
- Fresh milk: the daily essential, processed and packed for households in the region.
- Yoghurt: creamy set yoghurt for breakfast tables and desserts.
- Drinking yoghurt: an affordable, ready-to-drink option. [Add flavours and pack sizes.]
- Set curd (“set kiri”): a favourite in Sri Lankan homes, served with treacle or alongside a meal.
From farm to pack
A good dairy product is decided long before it reaches the factory. It depends on how the milk is collected, how quickly it is chilled and how carefully it is handled. Richi is expanding its network of milk collection centres to meet growing demand, which means more farmers can supply milk close to home while quality is protected.
Growing responsibly
Richi has told its customers that it wants to grow in a way that also protects the environment. Its approach covers using resources efficiently, reducing waste and choosing environmentally responsible production methods. For a dairy, that includes water use, energy use and the waste produced by processing, and well-designed machinery makes a real difference to all three.
Why the right equipment matters in dairy
Every product in Richi’s range depends on controlled processing:
- Chilling and storage: milk must be cooled quickly to protect quality.
- Pasteurisation: heating milk to the right temperature for the right time keeps it safe while preserving its taste.
- Fermentation and incubation: yoghurt and curd need steady temperatures for consistent texture and flavour.
- Filling and packing: hygienic, accurate filling keeps every cup and bottle uniform and extends shelf life.
As a producer adds collection centres and new products, each of these stages has to scale without losing quality. That is where good engineering earns its place.
Our part in the story
When Richi decided to build its production facility, it chose to source the whole plant from a Sri Lankan manufacturer. Nilusha Engineering designed, manufactured and installed the complete machinery plant
